True knots are a rare phenomenon. A true knot is when the cord loops around itself due to the physical activity of the fetus inside the womb. In a true knot, Wharton’s jelly protects the fetal vessels from compression. Whereas, a pseudoknot is formed by the accumulation of Wharton’s jelly or due to varices.
