Causes of Umbilical Cord Prolapse

The common causes of umbilical cord prolapse are:

  1. Preterm or premature rupture of membranes (PROM) – Before 32 weeks of pregnancy
  2. Accidental or mechanical rupture of membranes (Amniotomy)
  3. Polyhydramnios
  4. Abnormally increased length of the cord
  5. Breech presentation or unstable lie
  6. Prolonged labor
