Types of Retained Placenta

The retained placenta can be of three types:

  • Placenta Adherence: The contractions are not robust enough to completely expel the placenta leading to incomplete expulsion.
  • Trapped  Placenta: Even if the placenta gets separated from the uterine wall it gets trapped inside due to closed cervix. 
  • Placenta Accreta: The placenta is attached to the muscular layer of the uterus rather than the uterine wall.
