No definite cause is diagnosed in about 50% of all women who present with APH. However, the leading cause identified is placenta praevia and placental abruption. Other causes include Vasa Previa, uterine rupture and some local causes like vulval or cervical infection, trauma or tumors. Inherited bleeding problems are very rare, they occur in 1 in 10,000 women.
